The short answer
Expect starting rates from £55 to £130 an hour based on handling complexity
The price depends on whether you want a driver only, a 2-person crew, or a bigger van and crew for collection and assembly. Stairs and the Congestion Charge can add to it. Know how the pricing works and you can book exactly what you need.
- Driver-Only transit starts at £55/hr (minimum 2 hours, £110) for ground-floor moves.
- Two-person crew carrying starts at £75/hr (minimum 2 hours, £150), so you lift nothing.
- Store showroom collections (DFS, IKEA, Sofology) use the same hourly rates.
- Bypassing access issues with a window hoist costs less than a failed delivery.
The Core Pricing Structure of London Sofa Deliveries
Sofa delivery is priced on three things: the size of the sofa, the distance between postcodes, and how hard the access is. A standard courier leaves items at the kerb. A furniture mover carries the sofa in, unwraps it and puts it in the room you choose.
A 2-seater or 3-seater fits in a Small Transit. A heavy corner sofa, L-shape or double recliner needs a Luton box van with a tail lift, so the heavy pieces are lifted and loaded flat without stressing the frame. The van you need sets the hourly rate.
Hourly Rates vs. Fixed Quotes
Giga charges by the hour, booked in whole hours. Driver only is £55/hr with a 2-hour minimum (£110): the driver secures the sofa in the van and you help carry. A 2-person crew is £75/hr with a 2-hour minimum (£150) and does all the lifting. If a job runs over, extra time is charged in 30-minute steps. Mileage is charged one way, collection to delivery, at £1.20/mile for the small van. Stairs are £10 per person on the crew, per flight, for each hour at that address, unless there is a working lift. Send photos and postcodes and we will tell you how many hours to book.
Comparison of Transport Modes
The options side by side:
| Service Option | Starting Price | Best Suited For | Your Effort Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Driver-Only Transit | £55/hr (2-hr min, £110) | Ground floor, budget pickups | High (helping lift) |
| Standard 2-Man Crew | £75/hr (2-hr min, £150) | High floors, L-shaped sofas | Zero (we handle it) |
| Luton + 3-Person Crew, Basic Assembly | £130/hr (3-hr min, £390) | IKEA flat-packs, modular units | Zero (full setup & packaging cleared) |
Showroom and Depot Collection Rates (DFS, IKEA, Snug)
Retailers like DFS, Snug, ScS and Loaf charge £70 to £120 for delivery, but slots are often booked weeks ahead. Their crews may also refuse tight staircase turns and leave the sofa in the hallway. Arranging your own collection puts you in charge of the date, and the crew carries the sofa to the room you want.
Store collection with a 2-person crew starts at £75/hr with a 2-hour minimum (£150). We collect from the store’s loading bay (such as IKEA Croydon, Wembley or Lakeside), check the packaging for damage, strap the boxes down and bring them straight to your home.
Detailed Store Collection Protocols
Each retailer has its own rules for collection by a third party. We work to each one:
- DFS & Sofology: Need a signed collection letter or email with the release code. We check the corners of the leather or fabric before signing.
- IKEA Click & Collect: Needs the release barcode. IKEA boxes are very heavy, so we send a Luton with a tail lift.
- Snug & Loaf: Often packed box-in-a-box. We count the boxes so no cushions or legs are left behind.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. When you give us both postcodes, we check whether the route enters the Congestion Charge zone during charging hours and include any charge up front, so nothing is added on the day. There is no ULEZ charge. Tell us about any timed store slots too, so we can plan the route.
There are still options. The crew can take off modular or detachable parts where the sofa allows, or switch to a window or balcony hoist if the opening and street access suit. If neither works, we can take the sofa back to the store or depot, charged at the same hourly rate. Sending measurements first helps avoid this.
