What to Have Ready Before You Call a Removal Company in London
What to have ready before you contact a removal company, so your quote is right the first time.

A good quote needs good information. Most moving-day surprises come from a detail nobody wrote down: the stairs, the parking, the wardrobe that will not fit through the door.
Work through this list before you get in touch or book. It takes about fifteen minutes and gets the quote right first time.
Key takeaways
- Have the floor, lift and parking details for both addresses.
- List the large and fragile items, and any that need dismantling.
- Have a preferred date, a backup, and the whole hours you expect the job to take.
- No deposit. You pay by bank transfer after the job.
Step 1: Know the property
Note the number of bedrooms or the office size, the floor at each address, and whether there is a lift.
If there are stairs and no lift, count the floors. Stairs change the time a job takes more than most people expect, and without a working lift they are charged at £10 per person per flight for each hour at that address.
Step 2: Check access and parking
For each address, note where the van can stop, how far it is from the door, and whether you need a parking suspension.
In Central London, loading bays and restrictions change the time a job takes. Check the street on a map and note the nearest bay.
Parking suspensions
A parking suspension reserves street space for the van. The council charges for it and it must be arranged before the day. We quote it separately, so tell us early.
Step 3: List the items
List the large items: sofa, wardrobe, bed frame, desk. Mark anything fragile, such as glass or a TV.
Note anything that needs taking apart or putting back together. Dismantling is priced separately, so it helps to know early.
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Wardrobe or tall cupboard | May need dismantling to fit the stairs or lift |
| Sofa or large bed | Hoisting or a tight turn can add time |
| Glass, mirror or TV | Needs wrapping and extra care in the van |
| Piano or safe | Specialist job, tell us first |
Step 4: Pick dates and hours
Choose a preferred date and a backup, a start time, and how many whole hours you expect: at least 2 for a small van, 3 for a Luton. If the job runs over, extra time is charged in 30-minute steps.
Step 5: Know how you pay
You pay by bank transfer after the job is done. No deposit, no cash, no card. Budget for the job itself, not for a payment up front.
Frequently asked questions
No. The large items and any fragile or valuable ones are enough. We estimate the rest from the number of rooms or desks.
Tell us the street and we check it. Some streets, especially in London, need a council parking suspension, which the council charges for and we quote separately.
Either. Book at gigaremovals.uk/book/ if you have the details ready, or email info@gigaremovals.uk or Ask Giga if you want to talk it through first.
Tell us its size before the day. We plan for it and tell you the options, such as dismantling or a hoist.
