The short answer
Furniture delivery with a man and van: what it costs
A man and van is a flexible way to collect from IKEA, eBay or Facebook Marketplace. With Giga, a small van and driver is £55 an hour with a 2-hour minimum (£110). A 2-person crew for heavy items, stairs or long carries is £75 an hour, also with a 2-hour minimum (£150). Mileage is charged one way, collection to delivery, at £1.20 a mile.
- A man and van is often cheaper than store delivery for IKEA, eBay or Marketplace items.
- Ask for a van with a tail lift for heavy items like double wardrobes or stone tables.
- Check loading rules (red routes, double yellow lines) at both ends before the day.
- Flat-pack delivery costs less if you build it yourself.
- In central London, pick a time slot that avoids the Congestion Charge hours where you can.
Retail Store and Marketplace Collections
Buying furniture from a shop or a marketplace is easy. Getting it home is not. Store delivery can be expensive, often stops at the kerb and comes with long waiting windows.
Your own man and van puts you in control. The driver collects from the store bay, warehouse or seller, loads safely and brings everything straight to the room you want, at a time you choose.
Average Furniture Transport Rates
The price depends on time, distance, the van size and whether you need help carrying.
Standard store delivery typically costs £40–£90 but usually stops at the kerb. A Giga small van and driver, with delivery to the room you choose, is £55 an hour with a 2-hour minimum (£110). For heavy lifting, wrapping or stairs, a 2-person crew is £75 an hour with a 2-hour minimum (£150). Bookings are in whole hours; if a job runs over, extra time is charged in 30-minute steps.

Handling Bulky and Heavy Furniture Safely
Heavy furniture needs the right kit: dollies, a tail lift and straps to hold the load. That prevents damage and injuries.
For solid oak tables, American fridge-freezers or heavy chests, ask for a Luton van with a tail lift. If an item will not get round a tight corridor, take it apart before it travels.
London Parking and Loading Bay Rules
Knowing the parking and loading rules saves fines and delays. Vans cannot stop on red routes, and loading on double yellow lines is often restricted.
Find the loading bays near both addresses. If there are none, check the borough's CPZ (Controlled Parking Zone) hours or arrange a permit so the van can park legally while it is loaded and unloaded.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. You agree the sale and pay the seller, then book a Giga van to collect the item and bring it to you. Send us both postcodes, the seller's floor and whether there is a lift, plus a photo of the item with rough measurements. That tells us which van to send and whether one or two people are needed to carry it safely.
Yes, if you add assembly when you book. It is priced separately from transport because the time varies, from a bedside table to a large wardrobe with doors and drawers. Assembly starts from £40 per item. Tell us the brand and product names, or send the instructions, so we can plan the time. We bring the right tools, so the furniture is built and placed in the right room on the same visit.
Usually one to two hours from arrival to delivery. It depends on queues at the collection point, how many items are on the order and the distance. Big warehouses can be slow at weekends, so a weekday is often quicker. Have the order number and collection reference ready, and check the order is marked ready before you book, so the van does not wait.
Only if the route enters the central London Congestion Charge zone while the charge is running. Then the daily charge is added to the job. It is not added just because you live in London; it depends on the route and the time. There is never a ULEZ charge. Give us both postcodes and we will tell you up front whether the Congestion Charge applies.
