How Our Van and Crew Pricing Works: Why Every Job Has a Minimum Booking
Our van and crew rates, why every job has a minimum booking, and how to work out the cost of your own move.

Every price on our site, in the calculator, the booking form and Ask Giga comes from one price list. Know the hourly rate, the minimum booking and the two extras (mileage and stairs) and you can work out almost any move, in London or across the UK.
This guide explains the rates, why there is a minimum, how overruns are charged and what changes the total.
Key takeaways
- Small Transit, driver only: £55 an hour, 2-hour minimum (£110).
- Small Transit, 2-person crew: £75 an hour, 2-hour minimum (£150).
- Luton Box Van, 3-person crew: £130 an hour, 3-hour minimum (£390).
- Book whole hours. If the job runs over, extra time is charged in 30-minute steps at the same rate.
- Mileage (one way) and stairs are charged. No weekend, evening, bank holiday or ULEZ premium.
Step 1: Read the rate card
The three most-booked options. The figures match the calculator, the booking form and Ask Giga.
| Van and crew | Hourly rate | Minimum booking |
|---|---|---|
| Small Transit, driver only | £55 | 2 hours (£110) |
| Small Transit, 2-person crew | £75 | 2 hours (£150) |
| Luton Box Van, 3-person crew | £130 | 3 hours (£390) |
Small Transit and driver: a studio, a few items, or a load you can help carry. For flats in the centre, see flat removals across Central London. Small Transit and 2-person crew: a one-bed flat, a student move or a single heavy item. Luton and 3-person crew: two and three-bed homes and appliances. Mileage is added one way at the van’s per-mile rate (£1.20 a mile for a Small Transit, £1.80 for a Luton).
Step 2: Understand the minimum booking
Every job is charged at least the minimum: 2 hours for a Small Transit or Transit LWB, 3 for a Luton or lorry. That block covers the work you do not see: arriving, loading, the journey, unloading and parking at both ends.
In a city, parking takes time. A loading bay can be a few streets away, and carrying a sofa 100 metres can take longer than the drive. The minimum is the least time a crew needs to do the job properly.
Step 3: How time after the minimum is billed
You book whole hours. If the job runs over, extra time is charged at the same hourly rate in 30-minute steps. A Small Transit job booked for 2 hours that runs to 2 hours 20 minutes costs the minimum plus one 30-minute step.
Worked example
A Small Transit and 2-person crew, booked for 3 hours. The first 2 hours are £150, the third is £75: £225 before mileage and any extras such as stairs, packing or a parking suspension.
Step 4: Know what changes the total
Four things decide the total.
- Distance: mileage one way at the van’s per-mile rate, and longer drives take more time.
- Access: stairs without a lift are £10 per person per flight for each hour at that address; long carries and tight parking add time.
- Items: heavy, fragile or bulky items take longer to wrap, load and unload.
- Hours: you choose how many whole hours to book.
Step 5: Work out your own cost
Open the moving cost calculator, choose the van and the hours, and the total shows straight away.
When it looks right, book at gigaremovals.uk/book/. The same figure carries through to the review step.
